Matt advises on a broad variety of U.S. and international trademark matters, including trademark selection, registration, enforcement and disputes. He advises clients from startups to major companies on all aspects of brand strategy and the protection of brand assets. He also has experience in copyright matters. Every year since 2019, Super Lawyers has recognized Matt as a Northern California Rising Star in the area of intellectual property.

    Prior to joining Fenwick, Matt practiced at a prominent boutique trademark and copyright firm, and prior to that, at another leading international law firm.

    While attending law school, Matt was the executive notes editor of the UC Law SF Journal. He also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Jeffrey S. White of the Northern District of California. Matt was honored with the CALI and Witkin Awards for Academic Excellence in Trademark and Unfair Competition law. Before starting his legal career, Matt worked for several years as an editor for film and television.
