She has helped clients resolve disputes involving a broad range of commercial and intellectual property (IP) issues, including in high-stakes matters related to privacy, data security, trade secrets, trademark, copyright, licensing, and acquisitions. Janie has a proven track record of supporting successful outcomes in data security and privacy class action litigation, as well as in arbitration and government investigations.
Janie regularly advises clients on compliance with privacy laws, such as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA)’s wiretapping provisions, state-based wiretapping statutes, the Stored Communications Act (SCA), California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and state-based consumer protection statutes. Her counseling matters complement her litigation practice, equipping her with a nuanced understanding of each client’s strategic priorities and allowing her to deliver legal guidance that aligns with broader business objectives.
Janie maintains an active pro bono practice encompassing immigration law and civil rights, including: the obtainment of asylum on grounds of political opinion; representation of client for reduction of federal criminal sentencing; advisement on the expungement of Californian criminal records; volunteering at DACA and record expungement clinics; and trying a civil rights matter in federal court involving allegations of excessive force and related constitutional violations.
