Dan has years of experience counseling emerging high-growth companies in all aspects of their business, both as outside counsel and as a corporate executive. At Fenwick, he focuses on the representation of startup companies and venture capital firms in their investments in portfolio companies. He has particular expertise guiding startups and investors through a broad range of corporate matters, including financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and complex strategic partnerships, as well as corporate governance matters. Dan has recently represented his venture capital -financed company clients in acquisitions by Comcast, QUALCOMM, Google, Salesforce, Nielsen, Oracle and Facebook, among others, and regularly represents his clients in their acquisition transactions.

From 1994 to 2000, Dan served in general counsel and corporate development roles at several venture financed companies. Dan began his career at a leading Silicon Valley law firm, where he was elected partner in 1993.

Dan is a frequent lecturer on startup company formation and financing matters at the Stanford Engineering School and the Stanford d. School and serves on the Stanford Technology Ventures Program Board of Advisors. Dan is particularly focused on climate related matters, both in his startup practice and outside of the office.

Dan and his wife Fern live in Palo Alto and have two grown children.
