Chen advises life sciences clients on formulating and implementing strategies to obtain and strengthen worldwide protection for their inventions. He has extensive experience working with inventors, companies at different stages, and research organizations to build and manage their patent assets throughout product development.

Chen counsels clients on a range of IP matters, including patent prosecution, patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and due diligence. He regularly advises on IP-related considerations in complex transactions including financings, strategic partnerships, licensing agreements, IPOs, and M&A.

Leveraging his fluency in Chinese (Mandarin), Chen collaborates with colleagues to help clients with cross-border IP strategies, particularly in transactions involving China.

With a strong technical background in both biology and chemistry, Chen works with clients across the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. His practice spans a variety of technologies, including small molecule pharmaceuticals, antibody therapeutics, plant biotechnology, virology and pharmaceutical formulations. His scientific background and business-focused approach enable him to help clients navigate IP challenges and align their patent strategies with their broader commercial goals.
