Antonia has earned a reputation as an innovative IP lawyer who is highly strategic and uniquely focused on life sciences companies with multidisciplinary technologies at the intersection of biotechnology, medical devices and software/AI.
I really love working with clients who push the boundaries of technology to improve people’s lives.”
– Antonia Sequeira
She has built successful international IP portfolios from the ground up for startup and emerging companies focused on life sciences as well as on software, bioinformatics, and AI, and where those industries intersect. Antonia partners with her clients in every aspect, effectively becoming a member of the team and guiding them on the most strategic path to building foundational IP protection and long-term portfolio value, while also leveraging her patent litigation background to bring further strategic insight on patent drafting. Antonia helped Shockwave Medical navigate IP and regulatory issues in transactions, ultimately culminating in their acquisition by Johnson & Johnson; Food science company EVERY relied on Antonia to develop their patent portfolio and guide them on the launch of numerous protein based food products such as EVERY Protein™, EVERY EggWhite™, EVERY Pepsin, and EVERY’s alternative meat products; and she played an integral role in protecting precision diagnostics company BilliontoOne’s UNITY fetal assays and Northstar liquid biopsy assays. She secured key patents and provided strategic IP advice to Element Biosciences, a DNA sequencing platform developer, in the launch of its AVITI™ suite of genomic solutions.
Antonia’s prior industry experience in hospitals and a clinical laboratory, as a researcher on the Drosophila Genome Project at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and as a founder of startup companies, gives her a multifaceted perspective valued by her life sciences clients. She is passionate about furthering opportunities for female entrepreneurs and was actively involved on the board of Wogrammer (now a part of the AnitaB.org Institute), an organization aimed at breaking stereotypes and inspiring women and girls to pursue careers in STEM.
