Managing Intellectual Property honored Fenwick with several accolades on its 2021 Americas Awards list, which recognizes top firms and individuals for remarkable IP law achievements and developments during the past 12 months.
The publication named Fenwick the Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year nationwide and Patent Prosecution Firm of the Year for the western United States. Litigation partner and life sciences practice co-chair Melanie Mayer, Ph.D., was named Washington’s Outstanding Litigator of the Year.
Underscoring the firm’s standing as a leading IP law firm, Managing IP also recognized Fenwick with a number of shortlist honors. Fenwick was among the shortlist finalists for Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year for the western United States, Trademark Contentious Firm of the Year for the western United States, Copyright Firm of the Year for the western United States, Patent Prosecution Firm of the Year nationwide and Copyright Firm of the Year nationwide. Fenwick Intellectual Property chair Rajiv Patel was also shortlisted among just seven finalists for Practitioner of the Year in Patent Prosecution, as was Sally Abel for Practitioner of the Year in Trademark Prosecution.
With a Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics, and an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, one of Melanie’s essential differentiators as a litigator is her ability to understand her client’s technology at a sophisticated level, and to distill those complex technical issues into compelling arguments before a judge or jury. Melanie co-chairs Fenwick’s life sciences practice group, and her practice encompasses intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution, including patent infringement and licensing disputes.
