Managing Intellectual Property (Managing IP) honored Fenwick with several accolades at its 2022 Americas Awards, which recognizes the top firms and individuals for remarkable IP law achievements and developments during the past year. Fenwick was named U.S. Patent Prosecution Firm of the Year, the second time in five years the firm has received this recognition. For the second consecutive year, the firm was also named Patent Prosecution Firm of the Year for the western U.S. and litigation partner and life sciences practice co-chair Melanie Mayer, Ph.D., was recognized as Washington’s Outstanding Litigator of the Year.
Fenwick’s IP lawyers, with scientific and technical backgrounds, represent many of the world’s most forward-looking technology and life sciences companies—from developers of futuristic life-prolonging technologies to those that are investing in the next wave of artificial intelligence, augmented reality, automation and robotics products and tools. The team, who has obtained IP protection for many of the foundational technologies of today’s technology leaders, including Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, GRAIL, GoPro, Immunocore, Meta (formerly Facebook), and Twitter, regularly receives recognition for its innovative work from Chambers USA, IAM Patent 1000, IP Media Group and The Legal 500, among numerous others.
Seattle-based Mayer, named Washington’s Outstanding Litigator of the Year two years in a row, has led cases involving a range of technologies—from biotechnology to e-commerce and high-performance computing systems—for some of the world’s most innovative companies. She is particularly well-versed in life sciences matters, including those related to pharmaceuticals, medical devices, enzyme variants, polymers and drug screening and delivery platforms.
In addition, Managing IP honored the team with a number of shortlist recognitions across the copyright, patent, trademark and transactional categories, reinforcing Fenwick’s standing as one of the leading firms advising on the full spectrum of intellectual property. Fenwick was among the shortlist finalists both nationally and in the western U.S. region for Trademark Prosecution and Copyright, as well as among the finalists for IP Transactions nationally and for Trademark Contentious in the western U.S. The team also received individual national shortlist recognitions for intellectual property chair Rajiv Patel (Practitioner of the Year for Patent Prosecution) and partner Karen Webb (Practitioner of the Year for Trademark Prosecution).
Fenwick is routinely recognized at the publication’s Americas Awards. In the previous two years alone, the firm was also named the U.S. Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year (2021), Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year for the western U.S.—the third time in four years (2020)—and Copyright Firm of the Year for the western U.S. (2020).
