Fenwick Welcomes My Vo as Tax Counsel, Elevating Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Expertise

Fenwick today announced that My Vo has joined the firm as tax counsel. He will be based in the firm’s Seattle office.

Vo brings substantial expertise from his distinguished tenure at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, where he most recently served as a special trial attorney. His addition adds to Fenwick's broad tax litigation capabilities, including transfer pricing, international tax matters, and within the blockchain industry.

"My’s background in handling intricate tax disputes and his innovative approach to legal issues make him an outstanding addition to our team,” said Richard Dickson, firmwide chair of Fenwick. “His expertise will not only enhance our tax litigation practice but also benefit our clients in the rapidly evolving blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors.”

At Fenwick, Vo will focus on tax litigation, with an emphasis on transfer pricing, international tax matters, and blockchain matters. His practice will involve representing clients in challenging tax controversies and disputes, from pre-litigation counsel to trial and appeal.

“My’s deep industry insight and technical proficiency will be invaluable as we navigate the complex landscape of blockchain and cryptocurrency tax disputes," stated Larissa Neumann, chair of the Tax Department. “His impressive record of achievements at the IRS is a testament to his expertise and capabilities."

During his time at the IRS, Vo played a crucial role in managing large-scale tax controversies, including the recent landmark trial in the transfer pricing case Amgen Inc. v. Commissioner. As a special trial attorney in Seattle, he led aspects of high-profile transfer pricing cases and secured significant resolutions and settlements on behalf of the IRS. He also served within the Large Business & International division, where he handled high-value audits, managed sophisticated discovery processes, and received the Outstanding Litigator Award in 2014 for exemplary performance.

Reflecting on his new role, Vo said, “Fenwick’s reputation for being at the bleeding edge of blockchain and cryptocurrency law drew me to the firm. I am eager to work with such a talented team and provide our clients with creative and effective tax litigation strategies.”

Fenwick has continually added to its full spectrum of capabilities by bringing in top talent from government agencies, including the recent additions of Jonathan Lenzner and Benjamin Kingsley. Vo’s arrival enhances the firm's expertise in managing complex tax and regulatory issues and reaffirms Fenwick's leading position in the blockchain industry. The firm’s lawyers leverage expertise across regulatory, corporate, tax, intellectual property, cybersecurity, and litigation to provide comprehensive counsel on all aspects of blockchain technology.
