Fenwick announced today the arrival of new corporate and regulatory partner Heidi Lawson, who will help launch a focus for serving clients at the intersection of insurance and technology innovation. She is based in New York.
“Heidi is at the forefront of the burgeoning insurtech sector,” said Fenwick Chair Richard Dickson. “We’re thrilled that she will help expand our services as next-generation technologies and innovative product service offerings drive demand for insights on complying with insurance regulations.”
Lawson has extensive experience guiding clients through insurance and insurance-related transactions, including joint ventures, M&A, captive formation, and strategic relationships. She is regularly sought after for her insights by insurtech, fintech, shared economy, venture capital, private equity, and traditional and non-traditional insurance industry players. Lawson also advises clients on various complex insurance coverage matters, including developing new insurance and financial services products.
“Heidi’s deep knowledge of the insurance and financial services industries is a tremendous addition as we help clients navigate an increasingly complex regulatory and tech-driven economy,” said Alan Smith, chair of Fenwick’s corporate group. “Her regulatory capabilities are an excellent complement to our team and our strategic focus for advising tech and life sciences clients at every stage of their business lifecycle.”
“I am delighted to join such talented colleagues at Fenwick and to have a key role in its growing regulatory practice,” Lawson said. “As a firm renowned for its market-leading legal services to the tech and life sciences sectors, I look forward to the synergy that will come from integrating my practice and relationships across Fenwick’s incredibly collaborative platform.”
Lawson’s arrival advances Fenwick’s ongoing investment in growing its regulatory capabilities, including the arrival earlier this year of national security partner Rob Slack in Washington, DC. In 2022 the firm welcomed government contracts partners Joyce Tong Oelrich and Zohra Tejani in DC, and healthcare regulatory partner Jennifer Yoo in Santa Monica. In late 2021, trade and national security partner Melissa Duffy, and antitrust partners Tom Ensign and Steve Albertson joined the firm and helped launch Fenwick’s DC office.
