Fenwick announced today that Brian Buckley has rejoined the firm as a litigation partner in its Seattle office.
With 25 years of complex litigation experience, Buckley is both a skilled trial lawyer and a pragmatic counselor helping corporate clients make informed business decisions about litigation and business risks. Before returning to Fenwick's litigation team, Buckley was Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Regulatory at Amazon.
“The technology and life sciences sectors continue to be active through the pandemic, and our practices have stayed extremely busy throughout the past year,” said Richard Dickson, Fenwick chair. “We are making strategic investments to serve the needs of our clients, and we’re excited to welcome Brian back. His experience and deep network in the Seattle area and his many connections with major technology companies position us well to serve the needs of our growing client base.”
Fenwick litigation practice chair Jedediah Wakefield said, “We are seeing exceptional growth in our litigation practice, as technology and life sciences clients look to Fenwick to handle their most pressing litigation needs. With broad experience, Brian strengthens our capabilities across multiple areas, including IP, commercial, and securities litigation. He is an excellent trial lawyer, a valued colleague, and a superb mentor, and we’re looking forward to Brian’s contributions to our growing practice.”
“I’m excited to return to Fenwick,” Buckley said. “Fenwick’s growth trajectory over the past five years has been very impressive, especially with its expanding litigation profile. This is a great team, with many opportunities to take on high-impact litigation for dynamic clients.”
Buckley's litigation experience includes a wide range of commercial and intellectual property disputes, including trademark and copyright litigation, consumer class action defense, and trade secret and non-compete matters. Buckley also has extensive experience representing public and private companies in mergers-and-acquisitions litigation, derivative actions, corporate governance litigation, and internal investigations. He has tried cases in federal and state courts across the country.
Throughout his career, Buckley has also devoted substantial time to pro bono and public interest work. He currently serves on the board of The Campaign for Equal Justice, Washington state’s central funding source for civil legal aid. He is also on the board of Legal Voice, which pursues justice for women and LGBTQ people through groundbreaking litigation, legislative advocacy, and education. In 2013, Buckley received the Washington State Bar Association's Annual Pro Bono Award for his significant contributions to the legal profession and access to justice.
In the last two years alone, Fenwick’s award-winning litigation practice has helped defeat patent challenges, securities litigation suits, and class actions and shareholder derivative lawsuits on behalf of major technology and life sciences clients such as Amazon, Cray, Loxo Oncology, Peloton, Tesla, Uber, and UCB. The group was named one of the finalists for 2020 Litigation Department of the Year in California by The American Lawyer.
