Jennifer Kelly and Jennifer Stanley, co-chairs, Games Industry Group, Fenwick & West
Mountain View, CA (April 26, 2018) – Fenwick & West today announced the appointment of Jennifer Kelly and Jennifer Stanley as co-chairs of the firm’s growing games industry group. The two partners will lead a group whose track record includes serving the legal needs of leading gaming companies—from emerging studios to seasoned developers, to leagues and large publishers and platforms.
“Fenwick has been working with companies in the gaming arena for a long time and this new industry group organizes our efforts to best serve our clients,” said Fenwick managing partner Rodger Cole.
“Our team, made up of life-long gamers with a passion for the law, is now one of the most active gaming practices in the world and we’re thrilled the Jennifers agreed to take on this role,” said corporate partner Mark Stevens, one of the early pioneers in gaming legal issues who has played an integral role in building Fenwick’s games practice.
Fenwick’s games industry group, consisting of about 20 lawyers with significant industry experience, has a 40-year history of representing trailblazing companies. The group advises on industry-shaping matters, including three of the largest M&A deals in gaming history, copycat “cloning” lawsuits and strategic patent portfolio management. The firm has represented Sega, King Digital Entertainment, Peak Games, Supercell Oy, Gram Games, Glu Mobile, Nexon, Facebook and other gaming companies in top deals and issues.
Recently elected chair of Fenwick’s IP and commercial litigation practice group, Kelly is one of the foremost authorities on intellectual property issues pertinent to video games and mobile games. She has been named one of The Recorder’s Women Leaders in Tech Law for the past two years and was recently named to the Executive Board of TechLaw. Kelly has led a number of high-profile copyright infringement “cloning” lawsuits for Fenwick clients, including King, Peak Games, Gram Games and Glu Mobile.
Stanley is one of the go-to authorities on intellectual property issues and commercial deal makers relating to games, virtual reality, content licensing and social media. As chair of Fenwick’s copyright group, she advises gaming and digital media companies on all aspects of protecting and leveraging copyright protected works. She is also a key member of the privacy and cybersecurity practice, where she advises clients on all aspects relating to collection, use and disclosure of personal information.
Both are active in the Video Game Bar Association, guest lecture at law schools on video game law and frequently speak at industry events.
