Fenwick has been named to Crain’s New York’s Best Places to Work for the third consecutive year. The repeat achievement underscores the firm’s trajectory of success in New York since the tech and life sciences-focused firm opened the office there just five years ago.
Fenwick is one of 100 companies on the list, which recognizes companies that have built and maintained a positive corporate culture and workplace experience.
This year marks Fenwick’s fifth anniversary in New York, and the office has scaled to keep pace with rapid growth of its tech and life sciences client base in the city and around the globe. Since its launch in 2016, the office has grown from eight lawyers to more than 100 lawyers, and now comprises more than 20 percent of the firm’s overall lawyer headcount.
A Best Place to Work
As the firm has grown to meet client needs, it has remained true to its Silicon Valley ethos and sustaining a diverse community of professionals and an open culture where talented people thrive and collaborate.
During the public health crisis, the health, wellness and safety of the entire Fenwick team has been a top priority. The firm continues to provide lawyers and professional staff with the opportunity to work from home through the end of 2021. Employees have also received generous work-from-home stipends, enhanced wellness benefits and wellbeing stipends, and support from a working-parents program with a tutoring and childcare stipend. The firm has brought in medical experts to present the latest information on vaccines and Covid-19 variants in firmwide forums. It has boosted mental health offerings and welcomed wellness experts for presentations and one-one-one coaching and stress reduction.
Building and maintaining a culture of allyship and inclusion is also a priority for the overall wellness of the firm. Fenwick offers firmwide training on topics such as unconscious bias, effective allyship and cross-cultural competency on a regular basis. While working from home, the firm’s 13 affinity and employee resource groups help hold community-building events throughout the year, including virtual dance parties, museum tours and cross-cultural speakers.
Supported by its culture of innovation, collaboration and inclusion, Fenwick team members thrive professionally while serving the unique needs of some of New York’s most innovative companies, including Peloton Interactive, BuzzFeed, Etsy, Compass, Loxo Oncology and Passage Bio. The firm also counts market leaders like Amazon, Stripe, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Goldman Sachs among the firm’s many clients supported in New York.
