Fenwick merger and acquisitions co-chair Doug Cogen has been named Lawyer of the Year for technology and telecom dealmaking by The Deal.
Cogen focuses his practice on M&A, strategic and commercial transactions, corporate counseling and financings. He also advises public and private companies with respect to corporate, securities, commercial and intellectual property licensing matters.
The Deal Awards recognize the lawyers, bankers, service providers and firms that are integral to M&A and private equity transactions.

In the past year, Cogen led GitHub’s $7.5 billion acquisition by Microsoft, Cisco Systems’ $1.9 billion acquisition of BroadSoft and Symantec’s sale of its website security business to DigiCert for $950 million and a 30% stake in DigiCert. He has also handled over 100 deals for Cisco Systems, including leading nine $1+ billion deals such as its $3.7 billion acquisition of AppDynamics.
Cogen has also been honored as a leading California M&A lawyer by Chambers USA, a Top 100 Lawyer in California by the Daily Journal, an IFLR1000 Elite Dealmaker, Dealmaker of the Year by Finance Monthly, and one of the nation’s best M&A lawyers by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Lawyers guide.
Fenwick’s M&A group as a whole also receives consistent recognition among the leading M&A practices nationally and regionally including being named Technology Law Firm of the Year for the third consecutive year by Global M&A Network.
