Fenwick Continues to Bolster its Premier Technology Transactions Practice, Adding Counsel Susanne Petersen and Cara Ann Rydbeck

New Additions Follow the Arrival of Partners Rufus Pichler, Key Shin and Carl Morales to the IP Practice

Fenwick announced today that Susanne Petersen and Cara Ann Rydbeck have joined the firm as counsel in the Technology Transactions Group (TTG), part of the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Practice.

Petersen and Rydbeck join Fenwick as the firm continues to enjoy unprecedented success in its TTG and IP Practice. They follow on the recent arrivals of IP partners Rufus Pichler, Key Shin and Carl Morales.

The additions of Petersen and Rydbeck bring significant depth to Fenwick’s TTG, augmenting the firm’s ability to advise clients on the legal, business and regulatory landscape around complex, innovative technology transactions for some of the most prominent and startup technology, digital media, consumer technology and life sciences companies in the United States and internationally.

“Fenwick’s technology transactions team has seen exceptionally high demand in this competitive deal market. Susanne and Cara each bring valuable focus on solutions and strategic advice,” said IP Practice chair Rajiv Patel. “They will help support the stratospheric growth we’re seeing from technology companies at all stages.”

“I am thrilled to be joining Fenwick in bolstering the firm’s globally-recognized technology transactions practice,” Petersen said. “The firm’s investment in counseling clients through the entire lifecycle is a great match for my practice, especially in this time of increasingly busy and complex deal activity.”

Rydbeck echoed the sentiment. “Fenwick’s focus on advising top technology clients and their investors, along with an impressive lineup of industry-leading attorneys and complementary practices, make the firm an ideal platform to serve clients and grow my practice,” she said. “It’s an exciting time to be a part of Fenwick’s leading Technology Transactions Group.”

Working extensively with in-house legal, business, and engineering teams, Petersen represents technology companies—at every stage in the lifecycle—on their strategically important agreements and arrangements. She brings deep experience in technology, IP and commercial transactions, regularly counseling clients on transaction structures, negotiation strategies, go-to-market strategies, implementation of new business models and protection of IP. She has broad experience in innovative technological developments, including autonomous vehicle, semiconductor, Internet-of-Things, financial services, mobile communications, healthcare, SaaS, aerospace, and on issues related to the use of artificial intelligence and big data and with a focus on emerging services and technologies.

Rydbeck—previously a director in the products (technology transactions and IP) team at an international professional services firm—brings in-house counsel and outside counsel perspective to transactional matters involving intellectual property, including matters regarding the development, licensing, acquisition, and sale of intellectual property and technology and other commercial agreements. She has extensive experience counseling business teams throughout product development and product deployment on operational, commercial and intellectual property-related issues. She brings a wealth of experience advising startups and established companies in software, Internet services, hardware, semiconductors, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, professional services and entertainment.
