Fenwick has announced that it is launching a Voting Rights Initiative to support nonpartisan efforts to boost voter engagement in this year’s general election, and the firm has pledged to make Election Day a paid public service holiday this year so people at Fenwick can vote and volunteer on Election Day, November 3.
“Our voting initiative ties directly to Fenwick’s Action for Change and our promise to work toward equal justice through civic engagement,” said Fenwick Chair Richard Dickson. “Voting is the most powerful lever in a democracy, and the most effective way to bring about change at the local, county, state and national levels. I hope that other law firms and more companies will join in making similar investments to promote the civic engagement needed for a properly functioning democracy.”
Fenwick has joined with other leading businesses in the Civic Alliance and electionday.org in pledging to provide employees time off to vote and to participate in an Election Day of Service. Fenwick’s voting initiative will include volunteer and community service opportunities for people to engage in nonpartisan election activities—including get-out-the-vote letter-writing campaigns, hosting and staffing an Election Protection call center, poll monitor training and support, and supporting nonpartisan organizations working for voter protection, registration and outreach.
Leading up to Fenwick’s public service holiday on Election Day, the voting initiative will also provide eligible voters at Fenwick with information on how to register to vote, apply for mail-in or absentee ballots and locate polling places.
