Managing nearly $40 billion in M&A deals in the first quarter of 2025, Fenwick’s track record of guiding industry-shaping technology and life sciences deals has earned the firm placement on Bloomberg Law’s league tables.
Fenwick was credited for its strategic service capabilities and long-lasting client relationships that drive impactful transactions—a sentiment echoed by Seattle-based corporate chair Alan Smith.
“When the tides turn towards an M&A wave, we’re going to have a lot of companies that are lined up and well positioned to go through—and we’re going to have the relationships and expertise to assist them through the transactions,” he said. “That’s part of what you’re seeing come to fruition this quarter.”
Smith recently shepherded Smartsheet’s $8.4 billion take-private acquisition by Blackstone and Vista Equity Partners, a relationship he has maintained since Smartsheet’s inception in 2005.
Bloomberg highlighted several high-profile deals in Q1 that underscore Fenwick's influence in the tech industry, including guiding Wiz in its historic $32 billion sale to Google, Niantic in its $3.5 billion sale to Scopely, and Redfin in its $1.75 billion sale to Rocket Companies.
Doug Cogen, a corporate partner in San Francisco who helped lead the Wiz deal alongside Michael Brown, Stephen Fisher, and Zach Portnoy, emphasized the firm's investment in providing comprehensive services and actively participating in boardrooms, which has helped clients grow from inception to market leaders.
“Part of our mantra at Fenwick is to never let a client outgrow us,” Cogen said.
