Fenwick represented Niantic, a leading augmented reality and mobile real-world company, in its acquisition of 3D spatial mapping leader 6D.ai. Together, they are building a dynamic, 3D map of the world, enabling new kinds of planet-scale AR experiences.
Founded in 2017, 6D.ai was spun out from Oxford University’s Active Vision Lab, building computer vision-based technologies and developer tools that solve fundamental AR problems, such as 3D reconstruction and AR persistence.
More information about the transaction can be obtained from Niantic’s announcement.
The Fenwick transaction team included corporate partners Kris Withrow and associates Victoria Lupu, Syeda Nawroj and Ethan Mackay; executive compensation and employee benefits partner Nancy Chen and associates Grace D’Arcy Strickland and Jonathan Stephenson; technology transactions partner Jennifer Stanley and associates Joseph Schenck, Ana Razmazma and Brandon Cheung; and tax partner William Skinner and associate Timmoney Ng.
Kate Dodson, formerly of Fenwick, led the legal team at Niantic. Fenwick has served as outside counsel to Niantic for several years, led by corporate partner Sayre Stevick.
