Fenwick’s Virginia DeMarchi to Join U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, as Magistrate Judge

Fenwick litigation partner Virginia DeMarchi has been selected to fill the magistrate ju​dgeship for the San Jose Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in June 2018, following the retirement of Magistrate Judge Howard Lloyd.

The Court noted that it “anticipates Magistrate Judge-Select DeMarchi’s broad experience with and knowledge of federal law and practice, together with her strong foundation in intellectual property law, will enhance the Court’s service to litigants in the San Jose Division.”

At Fenwick, DeMarchi represents technology and life sciences companies in patent litigation and in litigation involving other forms of intellectual property. Her clients include companies in a wide range of industries, including e-commerce, computer hardware and software, industrial enzymes, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, financial services, communications and consumer products.

She has tried cases in federal district courts around the country, and has argued appeals before the Federal Circuit and the Ninth Circuit. Before joining Fenwick, DeMarchi worked as a trial attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Steven J. McAuliffe, U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire.

She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 1993, and her A.B. from Stanford University with distinction in 1990.
