Professional Development:  Training

At Fenwick, we are committed to the professional development of every lawyer we hire. We also recognize that there is a steep learning curve in the practice of law, and that no amount of formal training can replace supportive, one-on-one relationships. For attorneys in their first two years of practice, we assign a confidential advisor to help our newer lawyers learn the ropes in a relaxed, safe environment. Throughout their careers, our associates are also paired with partner mentors to assist with all aspects of professional development.

Hands-on Experience and a Top-notch Training Program
We believe that our associates will best develop their skills by receiving substantial client responsibility early in their careers. And our novel legal work provides one of the best forms of education. While we believe in early exposure to real-world experience, we are equally committed to providing you with the training that will help you make the most of that experience. And our substantial in-house education program does just that.

Each practice group has a large and well-organized curriculum for new attorneys, including Boot Camp and Nuts and Bolts programs. Following the first year of practice, the firm offers a variety of ongoing and increasingly sophisticated legal education programs.

In addition to providing legal training, the firm is committed to providing our attorneys with other significant training to help them optimize their professional and practice development.

Ongoing Training
Regular weekly educational programs. These presentations by partners and associates help keep our attorneys up-to-speed on new developments in various practice areas and are open to all attorneys in the firm. They also satisfy the State Bar's Continuing Education requirements. Client-taught educational events. Clients, academics and other Silicon Valley luminaries and thought leaders frequently make educational presentations to our attorneys to ensure that we remain on the cutting-edge of industry knowledge.

Educational programs for clients on recent legal developments and issues that affect their businesses. Recent programs have included a panel discussion regarding open source in today's M&A world, an analysis of the Supreme Court's Grokster decision on peer-to-peer file sharing and a five-part series on mergers and acquisitions from the perspective of different key individuals within an organization who participate in such deals.
